Many vehicle accidents result in serious injuries. Such was the case for an accident that occurred in Clearwater a few weeks ago. Two people were riding a motorcycle in Clearwater and were on their way to St. Petersburg when a car reportedly “turned in front of them.” They could not stop before colliding with the car and both riders on the motorcycle were injured.
The man on the motorcycle spent some time in the hospital receiving treatment but has been released. His girlfriend, of St. Petersburg, is still in the hospital and remains seriously injured. The woman was put into a medically-induced coma several days after the accident to help her recover. Neither of the motorcyclists was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and she suffered trauma to her brain in the accident.
Now, this woman’s family and friends have banded together to raise funds for to cover her medical bills. Even though this woman was employed, she does not have health insurance.
This type of accident could easily result in large medical bills and have a significant impact on a person’s finances. Even if this woman had health insurance, she would still likely be facing some amount of medical bills as well as lost wages, since she has been unable to work since the accident.
A police spokesman stated that he believes that the “motorcycle had the right of way,” but the driver of the vehicle that turned in front of the motorcycle probably will not face criminal charges for his role in the collision.
Family members of the woman who is still in the hospital may want to look into filing a personal injury lawsuit against the driver of the vehicle. While the woman’s family and friends are working to raise money for the woman’s medical bills, financial compensation from a lawsuit could significantly help the woman cover bills incurred as a result of the accident.
