Family trip to Florida ends in tragic accident at airport

Some of the best childhood memories are formed on family vacations. What was likely a fun and relaxing trip to Florida's beaches took a tragic twist for one family. While they were in the airport heading intending to head home, a fatal accident occurred that could raise concerns about premises liability.

In a section of the airport that was recently constructed, a massive sign fell from the ceiling and onto a 10-year-old boy and two of his brothers. The 10-year-old boy was crushed under the weight of the sign and didn't survive. At the time of reports, one of the boy's brothers was still in the hospital, while the other had been released.

Officials from the airport and construction company that installed the sign are currently investigating the fatal incident.

In response to this accident, the community surrounding the airport has taken up a collection to help the family that was affected. In addition to the immense grief the family must be going through, they are likely dealing with the realities of major medical bills and other expenses stemming from the accident. Seeking compensation could help offset these costs and put the family on a path to start healing.

Property owners have a responsibility to make sure that their facilities are indeed safe for those who use them. In a bustling place like an airport, it's of the utmost importance that buildings are maintained and newly constructed areas are safe for the general public. When a party fails to uphold their duty to maintain safety, it's possible that they can be held accountable in civil court.
