One simple act of failing to stop at a posted traffic sign in late August has resulted in the recent death of a 66-year-old motorcyclist.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcycle accident occurred when the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on State Road 60 when he was struck by a 2010 Dodge Challenger. Investigators claim that the driver of the car had not stopped at a stop sign and failed to notice the motorcycle when the rider was attempting to cross another lane. After he was struck, the motorcyclist landed on the roadway and sustained what would ultimately be fatal injuries.
The driver of the motor vehicle was cited shortly after the accident for violating a stop sign. In addition, the cause of the fatal accident remains under investigation by law enforcement officials.
Road signs control the flow of traffic and promote safety for everyone using public roadways, particularly at intersections where vehicles are prone to collisions and where pedestrians are more vulnerable. Observing all traffic signals, including stop signs, is one of the basics in driving. Not complying with these controls may be considered driver negligence when it comes to any vehicle accident. Failure to look out for motorcycles, which are allowed by law to share the road with other vehicles, can also be considered negligence.
Losing a family member due to negligence is devastating. The death of a loved one can be a financial burden for survivors in addition to the cause of considerable emotional suffering. However, if a victim’s family deems that negligence is a substantial factor in a crash, then filing a wrongful death lawsuit may help a family recover payment for damages.
