The future of transportation and traffic in Tampa Bay

After residents of the Tampa Bay rejected a previous plan, the Florida Department of Transportation brought forth a new plan that proposes to add express toll lanes on Interstates 4 and 275 as well as other expansions. Leaders proposed the new plan, Tampa Bay Next. Just recently, residents got a look at this new transportation plan for the area.

Pedestrian accidents on the rise in Florida, across country

Floridians are fortunate that even in winter, mild temperatures make so that they can walk places. They may walk to shops, to school or to work. However, walking on Florida's streets is not always safe. Between the first part of 2015 and the first part of 2016, the number of deadly pedestrian accidents increased in Florida from 277 to 301, which marks an increase of 8.7 percent.

We will hold 'buzzed' drivers in Florida accountable

A previous post on this blog emphasized that one need not be rip-roaring drunk in order to pose a hazard to motorist in and around the Tampa area as well as other parts of Florida. The reality is that a significant amount of alcohol in one's system is going to make it harder for that person to drive safely and avoid accidents.

How does alcohol affect one's driving?

Many Tampa area residents already know that drunk driving is dangerous behavior that can lead to devastating accidents that injure or kill innocent people. However, many Floridians never really stop to figure out how alcohol affects their ability to drive. After all, while someone who is clearly intoxicated is pretty obviously not able to drive a vehicle or, for that matter, handle any other serious task, a person who is just buzzed might on the surface seem like he or she is fine to drive.

Cell phone use restricted for many commercial drivers

Any distracted driver on Tampa's roads and nearby highways is a danger to other motorists. After all, a lot can happen even during those two seconds a driver takes to make that one phone call or send that one text, and if the driver misses something, they can cause a serious accident for which they are responsible.

Young mother severely injured by alleged drunk driver

A woman, who was riding as a passenger in a vehicle traveling on Interstate 275 in the Tampa area, was severely injured when another vehicle struck the car she was riding in hard in the back. Both the driver who rear-ended the vehicle and the other driver suffered what police called "minor" injuries. Unfortunately, the young woman later died from her injuries, even though she was properly restrained in the vehicle.
