With highly anticipated road construction slated to begin very soon throughout the Tampa Bay area, many readers will find that these projects will affect their commute in some way. Road closures will happen, and you may find it beneficial to know where construction will take place so that you can plan accordingly.

In addition to the effect that construction can have on your drive time, it is also possible that it could pose a threat to your safety as well. Road construction can actually be quite hazardous for drivers, and sometimes, these projects can cause accidents and injuries to innocent motorists.

Road closings and driver safety

Tampa authorities are working to prepare for the closure of a prominent road in order to be ready for upcoming construction work. Workers will soon begin to work on the Selmon Extension project, which is the addition of an almost two-mile toll road on Gandy Boulevard. Drivers in the area should prepare for lane closures and additional travel time through this area.

There will also be temporary lane closures around the construction zone in order to allow for workers to prepare for the project. They will be bringing in temporary signs, construction barriers and more. These are all normal preparations for a road construction project, yet they can prove quite hazardous for drivers in the following ways:

  • Signs for designated lane closures and construction areas can be poorly placed or confusing.
  • Construction debris can fall into the path of oncoming traffic, causing drivers to swerve or hit dangerous material.
  • Barrels, barriers and cones placed in the wrong spot can cause accidents.

Tampa drivers would be wise to know how they can protect themselves when driving near road construction areas. If hurt in an accident caused by construction materials or work zones, it may not be your fault, and it could be the result of factors beyond your control.

Protecting your interests after an accident

After an accident, you would be wise to take quick action to learn more about your legal options. If you have grounds to move forward with a personal injury claim, you may be able to seek compensation for your fina ncial losses as well as the emotional pain and suffering you endured as a result of your accident.

Road construction is often necessary for the benefit of the community, but you should not suffer needlessly because of road debris and other construction-related hazards.
