Deputy, others injured in wrong-way crash

A sheriff's deputy was among three people in the Tampa area who suffered injuries following a car crash in which a driver was traveling the wrong way on the road. Thankfully, all of the victims are expected to survive, but the exact extent of their injuries was not discussed

The driver of the vehicle which caused the accident reportedly suffered some sort of medical problem immediately before the accident. This apparently caused the driver to lose control and start traveling the wrong way on a major city street. The man's vehicle wound up hitting a private car and then stuck the deputy's patrol car.

There are a couple of legal points that this case illustrates. First, even though the deputy will likely get some help from workers' compensation, these benefits may not cover all of his losses. In particular, they are unlikely to afford any compensation for things like pain and suffering. A personal injury suit may be the best option for the deputy to claim additional compensation to which he is entitled.

Second, it is worth pointing out that drivers have an obligation to keep control of their vehicles, and this is true even if when a person suffers from a medical condition that they admittedly cannot help. In other words, a person who cannot operate a vehicle safely during a sudden medical episode might not be able to drive.

The three people who got hurt in this recent accident will no doubt have medical bills and other expenses. They can evaluate their legal options to see if is possible for them to get compensation for their losses.
